Learning outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Describe what a fungal nail infection (onychomycosis) is, what causes it and how it is conventionally treated
- Explain how the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is thought to clear the infection, and the theory behind the 1064nm and 532nm wavelengths
- Understand the regulation, laser safety and professional responsibilities that apply to this treatment in the UK
- Carry out a thorough consultation, assess suitability and identify contra-indications that exclude a client
- Carry out a safe test-patch procedure to establish the client’s tolerated energy level
- Deliver the full treatment method safely, using the correct settings, spot size and technique
- Give appropriate aftercare advice and clean and decontaminate your equipment correctly

Assessment and certification
Short-answer knowledge review submitted to your assessor, followed by a practical assessment against a competency checklist. On successful completion you receive a CPD-accredited certificate.
