More than a standard carbon peel
There are a great many treatments advertised as carbon facials or Hollywood peels. Not every protocol is the same. Ours has three distinct stages.
1320nm carbon laser peel
Deep cleansing, exfoliation, oil control and pore refinement. A specialist carbon layer is applied across the skin and treated systematically with our Q-switched 1320nm protocol.
- Carbon-assisted exfoliation
- Deep cleansing
- Removal of surface debris
- Reduced excess surface oil
- Congestion
- Pore refinement
- Brighter-looking skin
- Smoother-feeling texture
755nm collagen rejuvenation
Where clinically appropriate, a separate 755nm pass is performed once the carbon stage is complete and the skin has been reassessed. This stage has a different purpose – it is not treating the carbon, it is there to support rejuvenation.
- Collagen stimulation
- Skin rejuvenation
- Improved texture
- Early fine-line improvement
- Skin quality
- Firmness and renewal
Avalon recovery hydrogel mask
A luxury Avalon Beta-Glucan Laser Post-Treatment Hydrogel Mask by KORU Pharma, left in place for approximately 20 to 30 minutes in line with the manufacturer’s published instructions.
- Intensive hydration
- Soothing
- Post-laser skin recovery
- Moisture retention
1320nm + 755nm + professional post-laser recovery. A basic carbon treatment is carbon application plus one laser pass. That difference is worth knowing when you are comparing prices.
What is a carbon laser facial?
A non-invasive laser skin treatment combining a specialist carbon lotion with Q-switched laser technology.
A thin layer of carbon is applied across the treatment area. It settles across the skin and around areas of surface oil, congestion and debris. Laser energy is then delivered systematically across the carbon-coated skin. The carbon absorbs that energy and is rapidly disrupted, producing a controlled carbon-assisted cleansing and exfoliating effect.
It may help the appearance of
The treatment is also known as the Hollywood peel, Hollywood carbon peel, China doll facial or carbon laser peel. It is popular because it refines the skin with minimal downtime.

What happens on the day
Consultation and skin assessment
We assess your skin type, medical history, medication, current skin condition, treatment goals, contraindications and previous laser history.
Professional cleanse
The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed and prepared.
Carbon application
A specialist medical-grade carbon layer is applied evenly across the skin.
1320nm carbon laser stage
The carbon is treated systematically using our Q-switched 1320nm protocol.
Skin reassessment
Once the carbon stage is complete, your practitioner reassesses the skin before deciding whether to proceed to the second stage.
755nm rejuvenation pass
Where appropriate, a separate 755nm stage is performed for additional collagen-stimulation and rejuvenation support.
Avalon hydrogel mask
The professional post-laser mask is applied for approximately 20 to 30 minutes, then the remaining essence is massaged into the face and neck.
Assessment and aftercare
Your skin is checked again before you leave and you receive personalised post-laser skincare advice.
You are not sent out of the door the moment the laser switches off. The mask stage means your skin gets a dedicated recovery period before your appointment ends.
Why we finish with the Avalon mask
Immediately after a laser facial our priority shifts from stimulation to soothing and supporting the skin.
KORU Pharma lists the Avalon Beta-Glucan Laser Post-Treatment Hydrogel Mask for irritated skin following laser treatment, sensitive skin, dull or irritated skin and vulnerable skin. The manufacturer describes benefits including improved post-laser skin condition, moisture retention, relief of irritation, support for skin renewal and help reducing post-treatment recovery time.
KORU’s published formulation includes
Beta-glucan
A soothing and hydrating ingredient used to support skin comfort and recovery.
Sodium hyaluronate
A form of hyaluronic acid that helps attract and retain water within the skin.
Niacinamide
Widely used in skincare to support the skin barrier and improve overall skin condition.
Allantoin
Used for its soothing properties.
Vitamin E
The formulation contains tocopherol, an antioxidant commonly used in skin-conditioning products.
Plant oils
The published ingredient list also includes evening primrose oil and olive fruit oil.
The descriptions above are the manufacturer’s own published claims for the product, not clinical claims made by Skintastic.
What the carbon facial is good for
Oily skin
One of the most popular reasons clients choose this treatment. Excess oil contributes to shine, congestion, blackheads, enlarged-looking pores and uneven texture. The carbon stage helps cleanse oily and congested skin. A course may be recommended where oiliness is persistent.
Enlarged pores
Pores are a normal anatomical feature and cannot be removed. But they look more noticeable when oily, congested or surrounded by uneven texture. Deep cleansing can leave them appearing cleaner and more refined.
Blackheads
Blackheads form when pores block with oil and keratin. Treatment can improve the appearance of congested areas across the nose, chin, forehead, T-zone and cheeks. It will not guarantee removal of every blackhead, but it can form part of an effective maintenance programme.
Congestion and texture
Particularly useful for areas prone to build-up. Carbon-assisted exfoliation can leave the skin feeling noticeably smoother.
Dull skin
Many clients notice a fresher, brighter appearance soon after treatment.
Early fine lines
The additional 755nm stage provides collagen-stimulation support, which makes the treatment useful for clients just beginning to notice early lines, dullness and mild texture change.
Does it actually stimulate collagen?
Our treatment includes a separate 755nm rejuvenation stage specifically incorporated for collagen-stimulation support. That is distinct from the carbon-assisted cleansing stage.
Collagen is one of the major structural proteins in the skin, contributing to firmness, elasticity, smoothness and overall quality. It changes naturally with age. Laser rejuvenation treatments create controlled stimulation within the skin to support gradual collagen remodelling.
Collagen improvement is not instant. Unlike the clean, bright appearance many clients notice immediately after the carbon stage, collagen-related change develops progressively over weeks. You should not expect a dramatic tightening effect after one facial. That is why a course offers more than a single treatment for anyone seeking genuine rejuvenation.
Does it tighten the skin?
It can support overall skin quality and mild rejuvenation. We do not market this as an alternative to intensive skin-tightening procedures. If significant laxity is your main concern, we will recommend discussing a different treatment.
Does it help pigmentation?
Carbon facials may leave the complexion looking brighter and more even, but this is not our pigmentation-removal treatment. Clients with defined pigmentation are usually better served by one of our dedicated pigmentation protocols. Pigmented lesions that are new, changing or suspicious are never treated cosmetically.
How it compares
Versus a standard salon facial
A traditional facial relies on skincare products, manual exfoliation, extraction and massage. Ours uses medical-grade carbon, 1320nm laser, a 755nm rejuvenation pass and professional post-laser skincare. It is a different category of treatment.
Versus a basic carbon peel
A basic carbon treatment is carbon application plus one laser pass. Ours adds the 755nm rejuvenation stage and the Avalon recovery mask. Worth checking when comparing quotes.
Versus microneedling
Carbon suits oiliness, congestion, pores, dullness, mild texture and general rejuvenation with minimal downtime. Microneedling is more commonly chosen for collagen induction, acne scarring, established texture and certain scars.
Versus IPL photo rejuvenation
IPL is more appropriate for selected sun damage, superficial pigmentation, vascular concerns and uneven tone. Carbon is better suited to oil, congestion, pores, blackheads, dullness and texture.
Versus fractional CO₂
A carbon facial is a minimal-downtime treatment. Fractional CO₂ is considerably more intensive resurfacing, selected for acne scars, significant texture, deeper lines and more advanced photoageing.
Versus IPL acne treatment
A carbon facial may suit oily and mildly acne-prone skin. It does not cure acne. Severe inflammatory or cystic acne needs a different pathway, and we may recommend dedicated IPL acne treatment, professional skincare, GP review or dermatology assessment.
What it feels like, and afterwards
Is it painful?
Most clients find the treatment very manageable. You may notice mild warmth, small snapping sensations, a light flicking feeling and the sound of the carbon particles responding to the laser.
Treatment does not generally require anaesthetic, and numbing cream is not routinely needed.
Is there downtime?
Usually very little. Temporary reactions may include mild redness, warmth, mild sensitivity and temporary dryness.
The Avalon hydrogel mask is applied immediately after the laser to help soothe and hydrate the skin before you leave.
When will I see results?
There are two different kinds of result. Many clients notice fresher skin, cleaner-looking pores, smoother texture and more radiance soon after treatment.
The rejuvenation benefit from the 755nm stage develops far more gradually, which is why a course is recommended for anyone seeking ongoing improvement.
Before a special event
Because downtime is minimal, carbon facials are popular before weddings, holidays, birthdays, parties and photoshoots.
If you have never had the treatment before, do not book your first one immediately before an important event. Establish how your own skin responds first.
How many, and how often
A single treatment
Ideal for skin maintenance, a pre-event glow, deep cleansing and general freshening.
A course of six
More appropriate for clients wanting progressive improvement in oiliness, congestion, pores, texture, overall skin quality and rejuvenation. £382.50, or £63.75 a treatment.
How often can I have one?
Our treatment programme allows carbon facials approximately every two weeks, provided the skin has completely recovered and treatment remains suitable. Individual intervals may change according to skin sensitivity, previous response, treatment intensity, skin condition, practitioner assessment and manufacturer guidance.
