About this course
This is our broadest light based course. It covers hair removal across diode, IPL, E-Light and Super Hair Removal, and then goes on into what else those machines can do for you, which is where a lot of the extra income in a clinic actually comes from.
You will learn the legislation and laser safety framework properly, how light based treatments work, diode laser in depth, the hair growth cycle, and how to plan treatment times, intervals and a full course rather than selling single sessions.
The skin side covers Fitzpatrick typing and patch testing, consultation, contraindications and consent, and then separate sections on skin rejuvenation, acne therapy, pigmentation therapy and vascular therapy for thread veins and redness.
There is a full step by step operating procedure for IPL and E-Light, a supplement on Super Hair Removal in depth, and case study reflections on treatments that went wrong.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Explain how laser, IPL, SHR, E-Light and diode technologies produce their effects on the skin and hair.
- Describe the structure of the skin and hair and the stages of the hair growth cycle, and explain why the growth cycle determines treatment timing.
- Select appropriate wavelengths, filters and parameters for different skin types and treatment aims.
- Carry out a thorough consultation, Fitzpatrick skin analysis, patch test and record keeping process.
- Identify contra-indications and manage client expectations, side effects and aftercare.
- Plan realistic treatment courses, intervals and review points for hair removal and each skin treatment.
- Work within current UK health, safety and regulatory requirements for light based treatments.
- Complete accurate records using compliant consultation, consent and treatment documentation.
Duration and delivery
Your large hardback manual and workbook is posted to you when you book. You then attend one full practical training day at our academy, 26 The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XL, where you are trained on all four technologies, IPL, SHR, diode laser and E-Light. The day covers regulation and laser safety, how the technologies work, the hair growth cycle and course planning, skin typing and patch testing, consultation and the skin treatments, followed by supervised practical work on live models. Your trainer observes three hair removal treatments and three skin rejuvenation treatments and records them in your workbook.
How you are assessed
Assessment is by a written knowledge review and short answer questions in the workbook, followed by supervised practical work on live models.
You demonstrate skin typing, patch testing, machine settings and technique across the technologies covered.
Your certificate is issued once both parts are complete.

Before you book
Entry requirements. A Level 3 qualification in Anatomy and Physiology, and a Laser and IPL Core of Knowledge certificate.
If you are missing either, you can take them with us first. Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology and Laser and IPL Core of Knowledge.
Insurance. Most insurers want to see an existing beauty or aesthetics qualification alongside a CPD certificate before they will cover you for this treatment.

This course is accredited by The CPD Group. Skintastic Aesthetic Lasers Ltd is an approved provider, number 777800, which anyone can verify at thecpdregister.com. The course carries 12 CPD credits and the accreditation runs to 29 September 2029.
