About this course
This course is designed to give you the knowledge to administer vitamin D injections safely, covering the effects and benefits, the regulations and legislation, the safety protocols, the anatomy and physiology relating to injections, and the record keeping and documentation.
You will cover what vitamin D is, how the injections work, dosage and method, allergies, the difference between oral supplements and intramuscular injection, key benefits, compliance, prescription only medicine status and contraindications.
Then the anatomy of the injection sites, the pharmacology, health and safety legislation, preparation and safety protocols, aftercare, and documentation.
The course is one full day, eight hours, and finishes with a practical assessment and competency check.

Practical training
Face to face at our academy on The Avenue in Southampton, on a model or mannequin under supervision, with all client forms included for your own clinic.
Learning outcomes
- Understand what vitamin D does in the body, how oral supplementation and intramuscular injection differ, and the key benefits for health and aesthetics
- Use correct injection technique, with an understanding of the anatomy of the injection sites and appropriate dosage calculations
- Follow safety protocols and regulations, identify and manage adverse reactions, and maintain hygiene and infection control
- Carry out client consultations, including health assessment and consent, and advise on aftercare and monitoring
- Keep proper, legally compliant treatment records, and plan and promote treatment responsibly
- Show practical competency through supervised, hands on assessment
Prescription only medicines
Injectable vitamins are prescription only medicines in the UK. Under regulation 214 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, a prescription only medicine may only be given by injection by an appropriate practitioner, such as a doctor or an independent prescriber, or by someone acting in accordance with their directions. This course trains you to prepare and administer the injection safely within that framework. It does not qualify you to prescribe, so you will need an arrangement with an appropriate prescriber, who assesses each client, before you offer the treatment.
Prescription only medicines must not be advertised to the public, so any promotion of your clinic should offer a consultation rather than name the injection. Please also check with your insurer that you are covered to administer injectables before you book.

How you are assessed
Assessment is by written review questions, which you need to pass in full before the practical assessment and competency check.
You demonstrate preparation, safe handling, injection technique, aftercare advice and record keeping under supervision.
You will also receive written assessor feedback, and there is a learner course feedback form for you to complete.

Before you book
Entry requirements. Prior qualifications in anatomy and physiology and some nutritional knowledge, and a minimum Level 3 or Level 4 Ofqual regulated beauty qualification.
If you are missing either, you can take them with us first. Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology.
Insurance. Most insurers want to see an existing beauty or aesthetics qualification alongside a CPD certificate before they will cover you for this treatment.

This course is accredited by The CPD Group. Skintastic Aesthetic UK is an approved provider, number 777800, which anyone can verify at thecpdregister.com. The course carries 8 CPD credits and the accreditation runs to 15 October 2029.
