About

What this qualification is

This qualification provides the knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology associated with the facial area.

It underpins safe, effective practice across facial aesthetic treatments and is delivered as part of our advanced training pathway.

At 2 credits and 20 guided learning hours it is the smallest qualification we offer, which makes it a straightforward addition if a course you want, or an insurer, asks for facial anatomy at Level 4 specifically.

1

Nationally regulated

Awarded by Focus Awards and regulated by Ofqual on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, under qualification number 603/7310/6.

2

Portfolio assessed

Internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence. There are no external written examinations. Available in England.

3

Delivered by us

Taught at our Southampton academy by an approved Focus Awards centre, with a retired senior nurse as Internal Quality Assurer.

Before you enrol

Entry requirements

You need one of the following.

  • A Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy and a Level 2 in Skin Care and Facial Treatments, previously completed and achieved
  • Or, without a formal qualification, a minimum of two years’ occupational experience, subject to a centre interview and a review of your current knowledge and skills
  • Learners should be aged 16 or over, and entry is at the discretion of the centre
  • Focus Awards have relaxed this. They will now consider CPD and sector experience in place of a formal qualification, decided case by case. If you have been working in the industry without a Level 3, talk to us rather than assuming the door is shut

How to book your place

Enrolment runs through our own shop, so you get a receipt, an order record and the usual consumer protections.

1

Pay in full

£399 by card, Apple Pay or PayPal. Your place is confirmed once payment clears and we will be in touch to arrange dates.

2

Spread the cost

Klarna is offered at the checkout, subject to their own eligibility check. We do not make that decision and we do not see your credit file.

3

Not sure yet?

Message us first. We would rather talk the workload and the timescale through with you than take a booking that turns out to be the wrong fit.

Card, Apple Pay, Klarna and PayPal are all available at the checkout. Klarna and other pay-later options are subject to their own eligibility checks, which are made by them and not by us.

Afterwards

Where it can take you

Focus Awards lists these as the natural progression routes.

  • Level 4 Certificate in Enhancing Eyebrows with Microblading Techniques
  • Level 4 Certificate in Micropigmentation
  • Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments
  • Level 4 Diploma in Managing a Salon Business

Do not take our word for it

We would rather you verified this than trusted a logo on a certificate.

  • Go to the Ofqual public register and search 603/7310/6
  • You will see the awarding organisation, the level, the credits and whether the qualification is still being awarded
  • Approved centre status is granted by the awarding organisation rather than by Ofqual, so to confirm we are an approved Focus Awards centre, ask Focus Awards directly
  • If a provider cannot give you a qualification number, it is not a regulated qualification, whatever the certificate looks like
Common questions

Questions students ask us most

Why would I need this on its own?

Usually because something else asks for it. Several Level 4 aesthetic qualifications and a number of insurers want facial anatomy at Level 4 specifically, and a Level 3 anatomy qualification does not always satisfy them.

Is it really only 20 hours?

Yes. It is a 2 credit Award, the smallest size of regulated qualification. That is not a shortcut, it simply reflects how tightly the content is scoped to the facial area.

Is there an exam?

No. It is internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence, with no external written examinations.

Do I need a beauty qualification first?

Ordinarily a Level 3 in Beauty Therapy and a Level 2 in Skin Care and Facial Treatments. Focus Awards will also consider CPD and sector experience case by case, so ask us before you rule yourself out.
