Cold and thermal plasma in one unit
The SkinCool+ runs both cold and thermal plasma from a single platform, with ten professional probes. It is bought most often by practitioners adding advanced energy-based skin treatments to an established treatment list.
A cosmetic device. Not a medical device, and not registered with the MHRA as one. We say so here because what a device is changes what you can claim, what your insurer will cover and what your local authority asks of you.

CPD accredited training records continuing professional development. It is not an Ofqual regulated qualification, and we will not tell you otherwise.
Check what your own insurer and local authority require before you book, and we will match the training to it.

The ten probes
Cold plasma handpiece
- Probe 1 · Direct jet
Worked one to two centimetres from the skin in slow, even passes for overall surface conditioning. Sessions kept to twenty minutes. - Probe 2 · Fine point
Held one to two centimetres away and moved chin, cheeks, forehead, then neck, pausing three to five seconds per area. Used to refine the look of fine lines and help skincare absorb. - Probe 3 · Scalp probe
Moved in small circles across the scalp to freshen the scalp and help hair care products absorb. - Probe 4 · Small roller
Rolled point to point over small areas for three to five seconds, used over oils or serums, for precise work on localised areas.
Thermal plasma handpiece
- Probe 5 · Large roller
The same rolling technique over larger areas of the face or body. - Probe 6 · Point probe
Pressed briefly at evenly spaced points to support the appearance of firmness and the depth of expression lines. - Probe 7 · Ceramic ozone probe
A gentle sealing pass, two to three seconds per area, to refine the look of pores and leave the surface feeling clean and smooth. Cleaned with alcohol before and after every use. - Probe 8 · Diamond probe
Glided along the natural direction of the skin, forehead outwards and chin to cheek, to support the look of elasticity and the under eye area.
Probes 9 and 10
Two fine point precision probes are supplied with the system. We do not publish treatment protocols for these, because the manufacturer’s method for them goes beyond what we consider cosmetic practice. Speak to us before using them, and work only within your own training, insurance and local authority permissions.
Handling notes are the manufacturer’s: hold most probes one to two centimetres from the skin, three to five seconds per area, sessions of fifteen to twenty minutes, and clean probes with 75% medical alcohol before and after use.
Who this is not suitable for
Taken from the manufacturer’s manual. Every client needs a consultation and a patch test before a first treatment, and this list is part of that conversation. It is not exhaustive, and it is not a substitute for your own clinical judgement or your insurer’s requirements.
Personal circumstances
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Implanted electronic devices such as a pacemaker, nerve stimulator or insulin pump
- Metal implants, pins or artificial joints, on or near the area
- Laser or high intensity focused ultrasound treatment in the past month
- Cosmetic injectables in the past month
- Radiotherapy or chemotherapy in the past three months
Health conditions
- Diabetes or other systemic and metabolic conditions
- Congestive heart disease
- Photosensitivity conditions such as polymorphic light eruption, solar urticaria or porphyria
- A history of keloid scarring or poor wound healing
- Immunosuppressive conditions
- Malignant conditions or infectious skin conditions
The manufacturer notes that several of these apply to the thermal function, and that the cold plasma function may be an exception. Take advice rather than assume.
Medication and skin
- AHA, BHA, retinoic acid or azelaic acid treatments within the past week
- Isotretinoin or any retinoic acid within the past six months
- Anticoagulants, including high dose aspirin
- Pain medication that reduces sensitivity to heat
- Immunosuppressant medication
- Irritated, broken, sunburnt or newly tanned skin
- Fitzpatrick VI and above should not have the thermal plasma treatment
Also from the manual: remove metal jewellery beforehand, work well away from the eyes, cleanse the skin first, start at a low energy and build, and finish with moisturising aftercare.
What this machine is not
It is a cosmetic device
SkinCool+ is intended to improve appearance. It is not a medical device, it is not registered with the MHRA as one, and it is not a treatment for any medical condition. If a client describes something that needs a doctor, they need a doctor.
Results vary
Skin type, age, condition and aftercare all change what is achievable. We will give you a realistic expectation before you buy, including where the honest answer is that this is not the right machine for what you want to offer.
