Why Choose Shade 3?
Most practitioners prefer the lighter Shade 3 option, as it allows better visibility of the treatment area while still providing necessary protection. For client protection, especially during facial treatments or when working close to the eyes, we recommend using darker Shade 5 eyewear or total blocking eye shields, which can be found in our other listings.

About the shade numbers
IPL eye protection is rated by shade number rather than by the LB scale used for laser eyewear under BS EN 207. European IPL filters are certified to ISO 12609-1, which sets the requirements for eye protection during intense pulsed light use, and are commonly marked to EN 166 and EN 169 as well. American made filters such as these are certified to the ANSI standards instead. If your laser protection adviser or local authority asks for a particular standard, contact us before ordering and we will confirm what the pair you are buying is marked to. Shade 3 is the density normally worn by the operator, because it cuts the flash while leaving enough vision to work. Shade 5 is the denser lens normally given to the client, who does not need to see. Do not substitute laser goggles for IPL work, or the other way round, and never treat without the correct protection on everyone in the room.
