Medical-grade IPL for facial redness, flushing and visible superficial vessels
Do you struggle with persistent facial redness, flushing or visible superficial blood vessels? We offer advanced medical-grade IPL treatments for suitable facial redness and vascular concerns, including visible redness associated with rosacea. IPL does not cure rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic condition and symptoms can return or fluctuate over time. Our treatment is intended to help improve the visible vascular signs. We do not perform IPL vascular treatment directly over the nose.
IPL treatment for rosacea and facial redness
Rosacea is a long-term inflammatory skin condition that commonly affects the central face.
It can cause symptoms including
Some people experience predominantly redness and visible vessels, while others may also experience inflammatory spots or other symptoms. Our IPL treatment is primarily aimed at reducing the visible vascular signs of rosacea, particularly persistent redness and suitable superficial blood vessels.
IPL does not cure rosacea. However, suitable clients can experience a noticeable improvement in the appearance of redness and visible vessels following a personalised treatment course.
How does IPL help facial redness?
For vascular treatment, carefully selected wavelengths of light are absorbed by haemoglobin, the red pigment found within blood vessels.
This light energy is converted into heat. The controlled heating effect targets suitable superficial vessels, causing them to coagulate and gradually become less visible. Over time, the body naturally clears the treated vessels.
This can result in
- Reduced facial redness
- Less visible superficial vessels
- A more even-looking complexion
- Reduced appearance of persistent red patches
- Improvement in visible vascular redness
- Clearer-looking skin
Treatment settings are individually selected according to your skin, redness, vessels and patch-test response.
We do not treat the nose with IPL
At SkinTastic, we do not perform IPL vascular treatment directly over the nose.
If your main concern is redness, thread veins or visible vessels on the nose, we will assess the area during your consultation and discuss whether another treatment approach may be more appropriate. Where redness affects both the cheeks and nose, we can treat suitable areas of the cheeks while avoiding the nose.
Your treatment plan will always be based on the areas that can be treated safely and appropriately with our equipment and protocols.

What can IPL redness treatment help?
Rosacea-associated redness
Persistent background redness commonly associated with rosacea.
Facial flushing
Clients who experience frequent visible flushing may benefit from treatment where appropriate.
Broken capillaries
Small superficial facial blood vessels can sometimes be treated on suitable facial areas following assessment.
Red cheeks
Persistent cheek redness can respond well to a carefully planned IPL treatment course. Cheeks £59, course of 3 £159, course of 6 £299.
Lower face redness
Persistent redness across the chin, jawline and lower cheeks. Lower face £69, course of 3 £185, course of 6 £349.
Diffuse facial redness
Some clients do not have one obvious blood vessel but instead experience widespread background redness. IPL can be particularly useful here. Full face excluding nose £79.
How many treatments will I need?
Rosacea and facial redness vary considerably between clients. For many people, approximately three to six treatments may be recommended initially.
The exact number depends on
Some clients notice improvement following the first few treatments, while more persistent redness may require a longer programme. For many clients, treatments are carried out approximately every three to four weeks, allowing time for the skin and treated vessels to respond between sessions. Your skin is assessed before every treatment.
Because rosacea is a long-term condition, occasional maintenance treatments may also be beneficial. We assess whether maintenance is actually needed rather than automatically recommending it.
What causes rosacea flare-ups?
Rosacea triggers vary considerably between individuals. Not everyone responds to the same triggers, and understanding your own can be an important part of managing rosacea alongside professional treatment.
Why do visible vessels appear?
Small facial blood vessels may become more visible because of rosacea, genetics, sun exposure, ageing, repeated flushing, environmental exposure or skin trauma. Following treatment, individual vessels may temporarily darken, appear slightly more visible, then fade gradually and become less noticeable over the following weeks. More than one treatment may be required.
Rosacea, acne and the difference between them
Rosacea and acne can sometimes look similar. Both may cause redness, inflammation, spots and skin sensitivity. However, they are different conditions and require different treatment considerations.
Rosacea may involve visible blood vessels and flushing, while acne commonly involves blocked follicles, comedones and inflammatory lesions. We assess your skin before treatment to determine whether your concern appears primarily vascular, acne-related, pigment-related, inflammatory, or a combination. If we are unsure about your diagnosis, we may recommend medical assessment before aesthetic treatment.
Papulopustular rosacea
Some clients develop inflammatory bumps or pustules alongside redness. IPL may still have a role in addressing suitable vascular redness, but active inflammatory rosacea requires careful assessment. If you have significant inflammatory lesions or rapidly worsening symptoms, we may recommend seeing your GP or dermatologist first.
Ocular rosacea
Rosacea can sometimes affect the eyes, with dry eyes, irritation, burning or stinging, red eyes, swollen eyelids or recurrent eyelid problems. Cosmetic facial IPL is not a substitute for medical assessment of eye symptoms. If you have symptoms affecting your eyes, we may recommend appropriate medical or eye-care advice.
When we will not treat
Client safety comes before performing a treatment. We may postpone IPL or recommend medical advice if you have:
We also do not perform IPL vascular treatment directly over the nose. If IPL is not appropriate, we will tell you.
What skin types can have IPL redness treatment?
Our current IPL vascular protocols are generally intended for suitable Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV, following individual consultation and patch testing.
Vascular IPL relies on light being absorbed by haemoglobin. Melanin within the surrounding skin can also absorb light, so skin type is an important safety consideration.
We assess
A patch test allows us to assess your skin response, your redness, vessel response, appropriate parameters, treatment suitability and any unexpected sensitivity. A full treatment is only performed once the appropriate interval has passed and your response has been assessed.
If IPL is not suitable for your skin, we will not perform the treatment. Treatments are available to clients aged 18 and over only, in accordance with our insurance requirements.
Consultation and treatment, step by step
Consultation
We discuss your skin concerns, how long you have experienced redness, whether you have been diagnosed with rosacea, flushing, known triggers, current skincare, previous treatments, medication, medical conditions, previous laser or IPL, sun exposure and your treatment goals.
Skin preparation
The treatment area is cleansed and prepared.
Protective eyewear
Appropriate IPL protective eyewear is worn throughout treatment.
Individual parameters
Settings are selected according to skin type, degree of redness, vessel size, vessel colour, treatment area, patch-test response and previous response.
Treatment
Controlled pulses of light are delivered across the suitable treatment area. Haemoglobin within appropriate superficial vessels absorbs the light energy. The nose is avoided.
Endpoint, cooling and aftercare
The practitioner continuously monitors the skin and vascular response. Cooling may be provided if required and you receive full personalised aftercare before leaving.
Sensation, downtime and afterwards
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe vascular IPL as a brief warm snap or elastic-band-like flick. Areas with more visible vessels may feel slightly stronger. The sensation is generally brief and your comfort and skin response are monitored throughout treatment.
What should I expect after?
Immediately after treatment, the skin may temporarily appear redder, warm, slightly swollen or sensitive. Individual vessels can occasionally appear darker or more noticeable temporarily before fading. For some clients the redness settles within several hours. Others may experience temporary redness or mild swelling for longer.
Is there downtime?
Most clients experience relatively little downtime. However, temporary redness and mild swelling are possible. Some clients prefer not to schedule treatment immediately before an important social event, particularly for their first session, because individual responses vary.
Preparing for treatment and caring for your skin
Before your treatment
- Avoid deliberate sun exposure
- Avoid sunbeds
- Do not use fake tan
- Inform us of medication changes
- Tell us about prescription skincare
- Tell us if your rosacea has recently worsened
- Avoid irritating the skin before treatment
- Attend with clean skin where possible
After your treatment
- Keep the skin cool
- Avoid excessive heat
- Avoid very hot showers
- Avoid saunas and steam rooms as advised
- Avoid strenuous exercise immediately after treatment
- Protect the skin from direct sun exposure
- Apply appropriate SPF
- Avoid irritating skincare and aggressive exfoliation
- Do not pick or scratch the skin
UV exposure is one of the most commonly reported rosacea triggers and can also increase skin sensitivity. Consistent use of an appropriate broad-spectrum high-factor SPF is particularly important, and should continue after your course has finished. Never stop prescribed medication without guidance from the clinician who prescribed it.
Why choose SkinTastic for rosacea and facial redness?
Treating facial redness requires more than simply selecting a vascular setting on an IPL machine. Correct assessment, skin typing and appropriate treatment parameters are essential.
We do not use a one-setting-fits-all approach. Parameters are selected according to your skin, your redness, your visible vessels, your treatment area and your individual patch-test response.
Frequently asked questions
Can IPL treat rosacea?
IPL can help reduce some of the visible vascular symptoms associated with rosacea, including persistent facial redness and suitable superficial blood vessels. IPL does not cure rosacea.
Can you use IPL on the nose?
No. At SkinTastic we do not perform IPL vascular treatment directly over the nose. If your main concern is redness or visible vessels on the nose, we will assess the area and discuss whether another treatment approach may be more suitable.
How many treatments will I need?
Approximately three to six treatments may initially be recommended. The exact number depends on your skin, severity of redness and individual response.
How often are treatments performed?
For many clients, approximately every three to four weeks. The exact interval is adjusted according to skin response and manufacturer guidance.
Will IPL stop me flushing completely?
Not necessarily. IPL can help reduce visible vascular redness, but rosacea triggers can continue to cause episodes of flushing.
Can IPL remove broken capillaries?
Suitable small superficial facial vessels may respond to vascular IPL when located within an appropriate treatment area. More than one treatment may be required.
Can IPL treat red veins around my nose?
We do not perform IPL treatment directly over the nose. Visible nasal vessels will be assessed separately and we can advise whether another treatment option may be appropriate.
Is IPL suitable for severe rosacea?
Not always. Severe or significantly inflamed rosacea may require medical assessment or management before IPL is considered.
Does rosacea return after IPL?
It can. IPL treats existing visible vascular changes but cannot prevent new vessels developing in the future. Maintenance treatment may occasionally be beneficial.
Can IPL treat rosacea spots?
Our IPL treatment is primarily aimed at vascular redness and visible superficial blood vessels. If you have significant inflammatory spots or pustules, we may recommend medical assessment before treatment.
Can you treat rosacea around the eyes?
Treatment around the eye area requires particular caution. If you have eye irritation, dryness, redness or other possible symptoms of ocular rosacea, we may recommend appropriate medical or eye-care assessment.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes. A consultation, medical history review, skin assessment and patch test are required before IPL treatment.
How much is the consultation?
£10.
What age do I need to be?
You must be 18 years or older. We cannot provide IPL treatment to anyone under 18 due to our insurance requirements.
Book your IPL rosacea and facial redness consultation
If you are struggling with persistent facial redness, flushing or visible blood vessels, the first step is determining what is causing the redness and whether IPL is appropriate for the area concerned. We will assess your skin type, redness, visible vessels, treatment area, medical history, medication and treatment goals before recommending a programme.
If your concern involves the nose, we will assess it separately, because IPL vascular treatment is not performed directly over the nose at SkinTastic. If we believe your symptoms require medical assessment instead, we will tell you.
