In-depth knowledge and hands-on technique for body contouring, cellulite reduction and skin tightening, taught in three linked parts: radio frequency, laser liposuction and ultrasound cavitation. Each part covers the science, the equipment, the treatment protocol and the regulations, so you finish able to plan and deliver a full course of treatment rather than a single technique.
Who this course is for
Before booking you will need:
- A recognised qualification in Anatomy and Physiology
- A recognised Core of Knowledge in the physics and safe use of lasers
Both can be purchased from Skintastic if you do not already hold them.
Course structure
Part 1 — Radio frequency
- Anatomy and physiology of the skin and RF treatments: collagen, elastin and the changes that occur in the dermis, epidermis and subcutaneous fat
- How radio frequency works: mechanism of action and thermal effects
- RF applicators: multipolar, vacuum, cavitation, fractional, facial, hexapolar, tripolar, monopolar and bipolar
- Energy settings: intensity, frequency, pulse duration and modes
- Safety precautions: client, equipment, hygiene and emergency
- Comparison of RF with lasers, ultrasound and microneedling
- Client consultation, assessment, contra-indications and documentation
- Treatment and device protocols: skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, body contouring and device maintenance
- Compliance: regulations, legislation and legal obligations
Part 2 — Laser liposuction
- History and origin of laser liposuction
- Anatomy and physiology of fat cells, the skin and the position of the fat layer
- The science behind laser liposuction and how red light penetrates and interacts with tissue
- Metabolism of fat following treatment, and the importance of the lymph nodes
Part 3 — Ultrasound cavitation
- History, definition and purpose of ultrasound cavitation
- The science behind it, and fat cells and lipolysis
- Ultrasound waves in fat reduction and the mechanism of action
- Effects on the skin and body
- Machines, equipment and safety protocols
- Step-by-step treatment procedure
- Indications, contra-indications and managing adverse reactions
- Pre- and post-treatment care instructions
- UK government regulations and statutory requirements
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Define radio frequency energy and explain its role in aesthetic and therapeutic treatment
- Differentiate monopolar, bipolar and multipolar RF systems and their applications
- Explain the science behind RF-induced collagen production, skin tightening and fat reduction
- Identify the layers of the skin and describe how RF affects each, including collagen and elastin remodelling
- Recognise the role of blood circulation and lymphatic drainage in these treatments
- Set up, calibrate and safely operate the device, selecting energy levels, pulse duration and treatment mode for the skin type and goal
- Perform correct handpiece movements — circular, linear and lifting techniques
- Explain how laser liposuction and ultrasound cavitation reduce fat, and how the body metabolises it afterwards
- Consult, assess, identify contra-indications and document treatment compliantly
Assessment and certification
Written and practical skills assessment across all three parts, with assessor feedback. On successful completion of all three parts you receive a CPD-accredited certificate.
Course credits
40 CPD points on completion of all three parts.
Please confirm with your own insurer that these treatments are covered on your policy before you book.
