- Patch-testing protocol
- Step-by-step treatment technique
- Post-treatment care and aftercare
- Treatment adaptations for body areas
- Client forms: medical history, consent and aftercare, plus practitioner-only guidance on what to do when a client discloses a condition or medication
Duration and delivery
Approximately six hours.
Assessment and certification
Multiple-choice knowledge review, test-patch demonstrations, observation during live model sessions, and discussion and oral questioning. On successful completion you will be competent to perform carbon laser peels on suitable skin types, and you receive a CPD-accredited certificate.

6 CPD credits.

Who this course is for
Qualified therapists who want to add skin rejuvenation with a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser to their treatment portfolio, for Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV.
Learning outcomes
- Outline the key health, safety and regulatory duties that apply to laser work, and set up and run a compliant laser controlled area.
- Explain the two phases of the carbon laser peel and how the carbon acts as a chromophore.
- Assess client suitability using Fitzpatrick typing and medical history, and identify who must be excluded or referred.
- Recognise medications, topicals and herbal remedies that affect treatment.
- Select the correct wavelength specific eyewear and explain why only a compliant, registered device may be used.
- Carry out a carbon patch test, read the result and choose the correct treatment energy.
- Deliver the carbon exfoliation pass safely and evenly, with the optional collagen pass.
- Give clear, correct aftercare advice and recognise what is normal and when to review.
- Adapt the protocol safely for body areas.
Duration and delivery
Approximately 6 hours, face to face at our Southampton academy, including supervised treatment of live training models.

You will need professional indemnity and public liability insurance that names the carbon laser peel and each device you use. Insurers usually require device specific training and a valid patch test protocol.
