Small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin, known medically as telangiectasia and commonly as thread veins or spider veins, respond well to light-based treatment. So do broken capillaries, redness from sun damage and facial redness associated with rosacea. This course covers what can be treated, what must be referred, and how to deliver the treatment safely.

- Skin, Fitzpatrick typing and patch testing

- Vascular therapy: thread veins, broken capillaries, redness and rosacea
- Knowing your limits — when leg veins and other presentations must be referred for vascular assessment

- Aftercare, side effects and complications

- Client consultation, consent and aftercare forms for your own clinic
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Explain how IPL and SHR treat vascular blemishes
- Identify which vascular concerns are suitable for treatment and which need referral
- Set realistic expectations and avoid over-promising
- Apply correct patch-testing and aftercare
Assessment and certification
Knowledge review and short-answer questions, with practical observation during the training day. On successful completion you receive an accredited CPD certificate, 8 CPD credits. The course is accredited by The CPD Group as the Laser and Light Vascular Therapy CPD Course, activity number 1021413.

980nm diode laser
The course also covers the 980nm diode laser: how it treats a vessel, and how to select settings for a lesion and skin type.
Duration and assessment
Eight hours in one day: theory, then supervised practical on live models on both the IPL and the 980nm diode. You are assessed by multiple choice questions, short answers and client scenarios, plus two separate practical observations, one for each device. Both must be passed before your certificate is issued.
